To promote innovation and development of new technologies

Scuole

2009 edition of the Festival dell'Energia lasts one day more, among others also with the purpose of giving more space to the schools and to increase the activities for the youngest.
Within the spaces dedicated to them, young people will be able to learn what kind of a precious gift energy is, learning how it is produced and how to use it at its best, as conscious citizens, to safeguard the Planet.
The Festival will also represent a wonderful amusement, experimentation and meeting place.

A reservation is required to partecipate to these events dedicated to the schools: application by e-mail at scuole@festivaldellenergia.it.

Innovation Space,
by Festival's Scientific Committee

The Festival’s Scientific Committee selected the
best projects that applied to the Call for Papers,
an iniziative created to promote research and
innovation and to develop new technologies.
Projects will be presented at the Innovation Space of the Festival, set up at the Chiostri del Rettorato, where explainers will describe to the young visitors the details and potentials of the scientific innovations on show.

Target: from 12 years on
Location: Chiostri del Rettorato – Piazza Tancredi 7
Time schedules for schools: Thursday, May14 and Friday, May 15, from 9:00 to 17:00 – Saturday May 16, from 9.30 to 13.30.

Exhibition- The time of energy

By ENEA, Institution for New Technologies, Energy and Environment, and Apogeo Ambiente Srl, with the collaboration of the Museum of Chemistry of the University “La Sapienza” of Rome.

This interactive exhibition aims to introduce the young visitors to the fascinating world of energy in all its possible forms. This initiative wishes to show energy as a more tangible concept, by demonstrating how it is deeply rooted in our everyday life, and how important it is that all of us develop personal sensitivity and critical consciousness for the energetic question, with the result of reducing waste and using better the available energy sources. The exhibition is characterized by a strong experimenting approach: visitor has the feeling to be inside a real laboratory, where every exhibit and device is arranged to be touched, experimented and manipulated.
Trying out directly the available objects, the young visitors will be able, assisted by experts, to ask questions on the different phenomena experienced in this exhibition and satisfy their curiosity.
Target: from 6 to 14 years
Location: Chiostri del Duomo
Time schedules for the schools: Thursday, May 14, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, from 9.30 to 13.30 and from 15.30 to 17.30.

Educational game – Scientific gymkhana
on energy

By Fun Science

A game that stimulates the kids to understand the
meaning of sustainable development and make
them sensitive on a proper exploitation of alternative energy sources. This obstacle game is developed in three stations:
  • How many energy forms are available? - What is energy? Why is it essential? How is it produced?
  • Non-renewable energies – What do we mean by sustainable energy? Are some energy sources more or less harmful for the environment than others?
  • Alternative energies– Which are the most important renewable, alternative and clean energetic resources? Is it possible to exploit correctly our natural resources?

Target: from 6 to 14 years
Location: Piazza Duomo and Chiostri del Duomo
Time schedule for the schools: Thursday, May 14, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16, from 9.30 to 12.30.
Lasts 60 minutes

Educational game – Scartacarbone
("Coal Discard")

...the buraco card game in an energetic key
By: The Treehouse

Two enormous packs of playing cards and an
eighty square meters game board: you are invited to play your Scartacarbone game, a buraco game version in energetic key. A card game to play with energy, orientating between nuclear and solar energy, water and wind, methane gas and coal. To each suit corresponds a resource, to each card an element of the electricity grid. Shuffle the pack, choose a strategy and show your strongest cards…but pay attention to what you are discarding! Play buraco by building a finished electricity grid, from the resources to the plant and from the production up to citizens’ usage, passing through transformers, electricity pylons, control units and household appliances, experience the financial market, the bills to pay, the shameless luck of a joker in the pocket.
Target: for everybody
Location: Chiostri del Duomo
Time schedule for the schools: Thursday, May 14, Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May16, from 9.30 to 13.30.

National Geographic Channel Series of documentaries: Mega green tech by National Geographic Channel

Sun Engine
Solar energy is in the spotlight once again amid global warming concerns and fluctuating energy prices. But can solar prove itself on a large scale to compete with the other green energies? "Mega Green Tech" travels the globe to visit new massive solar power facilities and to explore cutting edge research - all of which must grapple with one of solar's biggest hurdles: what to do when the sun isn't shining?
Thursday, May 14, 18.00 - 19.00

Ultimate Skyscraper
In the city that never sleeps, one architect's dream for a greener future has been realized. The One Bryant Park building in New York City is not only going to be the second tallest building in the city, but is set to be one of the most energy efficient skyscrapers in the world. Richard Cook and his team have taken on an exhilarating challenge to transform the modern approach to green technology. Both groups envisioned breaking new ground in the arena of environmentally conscious skyscrapers, a significant step forward in a city known for massive energy consumption. Join National Geographic as we examine the trials and triumphs of erecting a skyscraper whose blueprints just might map out a new design for our planet's future.
Friday, May 15, 12.00 - 13.00

The Impossible Build
Each hour-long program will be built around one challenging construction/ engineering project that employs green technology on a mega scale. We'll investigate either a new project at a pivotal point in its construction or take an existing building and pry it open to show off the key green features and technologies it contains-building drama by revisiting the original installation of the new green technology, and moment of truth when first tested.
Friday, May 15, 17.00 - 18.00

Steam Drillers
Join "Mega Green Tech" as it journeys around the globe in search of what is perhaps the Earth's most available green energy: geothermal power. Visit Iceland, where an abundance of geothermal energy is helping Icelanders achieve an incredible 70% green energy use overall. Explore the world's largest geothermal power complex in northern California, and hear from scientists and visionaries racing to help geothermal technology not just dig deeper into the Earth's hottest layers but also to try to expand the potential of geothermal power across the planet.
Saturday, May 16, 12.00 - 13.00

Electric Ocean
Three teams of engineers are locked in a race to harness what may be the most powerful form of green energy… swift tidal currents and battering waves, the power of the oceans. Each team believes it can solve a portion of the world's energy needs. They're testing out three different machines designed to be placed in the water and convert ocean energy into electricity. But getting the machine from the design stage to implementation has been a difficult challenge and now each team is ready to install their systems and turn them on for the first time. If they succeed, they could radically change the way we power our planet.
